Evening
I love the trees
When I’m alone
And evening settles darkness
In the sky;
And the wind that twists
and furls
The branches and the leaves.
I love the lush green brightness
Of the forest floor
When fresh from evening mist
Or sudden rain
Exudes its damp and early
freshness
All around.
I love the pink and rosy
hues
That fill the sky
And leave the earth in
Softly darkening shadows
As evening creeps along
I love the hushness that
descends
When all have gone to bed
And I am left alone;
The peace which then I feel
As sick and tired I lay my
head
Upon the ground and feel
Its warmly scented breath
revive me.
